Who are we?
Sinethemba Happy hearts program is a service provider that renders services to adult persons with disabilities in Malmesbury and Swartland region.
We started off in June 2021 with 30 members who are currently funded by the Department of social Development. Our membership grew to 179 with 219 on the waiting list on database which we also serve through donations and sponsorships by our local businesses and partnerships.
We render an onsite program where we accompany 20 members to our center from their homes and back twice a week to interact and practice a variety of skills and development.
We also serve our 15 members on a weekly basis who are bedbound according to their needs and medical support.
What do we do?
The program promotes holistic wellness to the most vulnerable people in our community as integration and social acceptance. Our aim is to provide sufficient and equal opportunities that offer the basic rights of persons with disabilities.
Our current programs activities are as follows.
Nutrient support – We serve a healthy balanced meal to our members to ensure quality of life and as they are mostly on chronic medication.
Education, Awareness campaigns and skills development programs-
Education plays a very important role to upskill and develop our members abilities as many of them this is the first opportunity to gain knowledge and interest in a practical positive and effective way of life.
Through awareness campaigns we have built and strengthen our communities to understand and support persons with disabilities to treat all with respect and dignity
We encourage basic skills opportunities to our members to practice independence and purpose to their daily living. Through this we focus on strengths and abilities to social ecomical friendly environments.
Holistic wellness program
Spiritual wellness – Each member has the right to practice his /her own beliefs.
Emotional and economical wellness
We offer support through a referral system with basic needs and social assistance such as
- Medical support, medication intake, doctors’ appointment, and healthy lifestyle
- Sassa referrals – appointments dates and documentations assistance
- Home affairs – Appointments and required documentation support.
- Education and awareness programs on different themes and topics effective to a positive lifestyle.
Challenges and objectives to deliver sufficient services to our members.
Volunteers /Human resources – As the program have grown more support with staff is needed and there are currently no funds that can support staff salaries as 12 ladies offer support towards the program.
Implementation plan and Administration duties on Program coordinator – As the membership and interest grow it also place a lot of strain on the coordinator on personal wellbeing.
Space – The space is limited and can only accommodate 20 members on a day to the onsite program.
Transportation – With economic changes the budget is limited to provide transport and services to our bedbound members whom we serve at the comfort of their home.
Food and Adult diapers – Nutrient support is the most needed as this effect all person quality of life with the cost of living and challenges we cannot sustain the program members needs based on limited budgets.
Adult diapers are a huge need as the members only income is Sassa grants which make it difficult to standard living operations.
